Top 10 movies of year 2020

Well, who does not like to watch movies? Not me! And most certainly not you! So today is a beautiful day people! As we are going to be looking at the “top 10 movies of the year 2020” declared by google itself based on the searches of the year 2020. So without further ado let’s begin:

1. Parasite

South Korean film “Parasite” from the Director Bong Joon-Ho was ranked the most searched film of year 2020. “Parasite is a masterpiece whichtells the story of a family ‘The Kims’ who are poverty-stricken, living in a basement, they place themselves in the service of another family ‘The Parks’, an obscenely wealthy household. The movie focuses on how social statuses are very fortunate for the rich and can be very unfair to the poor who are barely trying to keep their heads over the water

Ki-taek : Rich people are naive. No resentments. No creases on them.

Chung-sook, Ki-taek’s wife: It all gets ironed out. Money is an iron. Those creases all get smoothed out by money.

 Parasite was THE FIRST EVER NON ENGLISH MOVIE to have scored Best Picture at the OSCARS!! The movies clearly swept up the Oscars with winning Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature. It also took home the Screen Actors Guild Award for the Best Ensemble Cast which is the show’s top prize, also won Best Foreign Film at the Golden Globes and the Palme D’or at the Cannes Film Festival which too is the biggest prize of Cannes. According to IMDB Parasite won 259 and was nominated for 221 awards more. It has a rating of 8.6/10 on IMDB.

From the cast to the performances and from the script to the message of the movie everything was perfect. It is a must watch!

 2. 1971

On No. 2 we have 1917. 1917 is a movie directed by Sam Mendes which was released in 2019. The movie 1917 tells the story of two soldiers who are on a mission to deliver a message that could stop an attack during the World War l. Director Sam Mendes dedicated the film to his grandfather who fought in the WW1 as the inspiration behind the film was his grandfather’s wartime stories.

Other than amazing action cinematography, performances, script and direction, a very interesting fact about this movie is that the movie looks like it’s a one-shot movie. Director Sam Mendes and Cinematographer Roger Deakins pulled this off by attaching cameras to the cranes and different vehicles and in some scenes even chased the actors on foot.

Director Sam Mendes and the whole crew bagged 3 Oscars for Best Sound Mixing, Best Visual Effects and Best Cinematography. It won seven awards in BAFTAS and two at the Golden Globes. 1917 has a rating of 8.3/10 on IMDB.

3. Black Panther

Marvel’s Black Panther is ranked No. 3 on the list by google. Ryan Coogler directed this movie. The movie tells a story of a guy who comes back after his father’s death to take over his rightful throne but faces resistance by one of his relatives who threatens to destroy his nation.

Black Panther won three Oscars, for the category of Best Costume Design, Best Production Design and the first ever Academy for Marvel Studios.

The lead character Chadwick Boseman died of cancer at age 43, he was diagnosed with colon cancer but did not made it public. Later when he died the world got to know of his ailment and it left his fans stunned about the loss.

4. 365 Dni

 Barbara Białowąs, Tomasz Mandes directed the No. 4 ranked movie, 365 days. The movie revolves around a man named Massimo who is the leader of Sicilian Mafia Family and one day kidnaps a girl who comes to visit Sicily and then gives her 365 days to love him. As cliché as the story was, strangely the movie became famous. Maybe because of the mature content the movie had.

Are you lost baby girl?”

 was one of the dialogues of the movie that got really famous because of all the memes that kept circulating the social media. This movie has not won any awards as of yet and has a rating of 3.3/10 on IMDB.

5. Contagion

Ranked on No. 5 we have Contagion from 2011. Steven Soderbergh is the director of this movie. Now all of you must be thinking, how can a movie from 2011 trend after 9 years? The reason why this movie got so popular in year 2020 is because of the epidemic that the world is going through right now. Contagion revolves around the story of a man whose wife and son’s death leads everyone to the discovery of a deadly virus. While the US Disease Control departments struggle to control it, it becomes an international issue. This film has a rating of 6.7/10 on IMDB. Contagion won Best Thriller TV spot in Golden Trailer Awards in 2011.

6. Tenet

Tenet comes in on No.6; this movie was released in Aug., 2020 and was directed by Christopher Nolan. Christopher Nolan has always been very famous for bringing out the most amazing films as a director for the public.

Nolan started at a young age because he is only 50 at the moment and has 34 Oscars and 10 wins.

The movie tells a story about a secret agent who is out and about on a time-bending mission in order to prevent the start of WWlll.

 

7. Enola Holmes

Enola Holmes was the 7th most searched movie of google in the year 2020. Enola Holmes came out in September 2020 and is directed by Harry Bradbeer. The film is about a teenage girl Enola Holmes, the sister of Sherlock Holmes and is very smart in resolving every puzzle that she comes across.

The critics have mixed reviews about this film. The ones, who like it, like it because of the cast and their performances (Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavil of course!) but the ones who say otherwise, say that the story is vague and dragged which creates lack of interest for the viewers. Enola Holmes has a rating of 6.6/10 on IMDB.

8. Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey

DC Comics’ Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey is a January 2020 release, directed by Cathy Yan, was the 8th most searched film of google. The story tells about how Joker throws Harley in the streets and how she picks up herself once again.

The fans of DC Comics loved the film but it was rated R because of the violent scene, the drugs shown and the strong language. It has a rating of 6.1 on IMDB.

 9. Mulan

Disney’s Mulan stands on No. 9 in the list of Google’s Top 10 films of year 2020. This film is directed by Niki Caro and was released in March 2020.

Mulan has a complete Asian cast which was one of the unique selling points of the film.

The story is about how a young woman tries to save his sick father from serving in the royal army and hides his identity of a woman to go fight for the imperial army. Mulan has a rating of 5.6/10 on IMDB.

10. Jojo Rabbit

On No. 10 we have Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit which was initially released in October, 2019.  This film tells the story of a cadet from the Hitler Youth named Jojo Betzler who firmly believes in the ways of Nazism because of his imaginary friend named Adolf Hitler but later he is shaken by a Jewish girl who happens to be in his house.

Jojo Rabbit won three Oscars for the category of Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Motion Picture of the Year and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role. It also won Best Motion Picture award and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture award in Golden Globes. It has a rating of 7.9/10 on IMDB.
